Double-glazed, High-performance Tinted Glass

This figure illustrates the performance of a typical double-glazed unit with high-performance tinted glass (which is also referred to as spectrally selective tinted glass). This tinted glass reduces solar heat gain to below that of bronze or gray tint but has a visible transmittance closer to clear glass. High-performance or spectrally selective tinted glass products are typically light green or light blue. The tint has no effect on the U-factor but reduces solar gain, which may be a benefit in the summer and a liability in the winter depending on local climate conditions.

Note: These values are for the center of glass only. They should only be used to compare the effect of different glazing types, not to compare total window products. Frame choice can drastically affect performance.
